The Wharf

1100 Maine Ave. SW. Washington DC.

As one of the many new neighborhoods that are part of the revitalization of South East D.C., The Wharf is the place to be. This particular place has become one of the city’s hottest destinations for dining, shopping and entertainment. And the best part that it is on the water. Right on the Potomac is a high-end office/residential complex with an accessible riverfront with 4 different piers and full of gourmet restaurants, local shops, venues and all kind of entertainment for all ages.

Once you go to The Wharf you will find yourself in a place where people listen to nice concert outdoor or practice yoga on the pier. On colder days you could cozy up to “The Torch,” a 14 ft gas-powered flame. All year around you can enjoy several gourmet restaurants or enjoy a few drinks with friends at different bars or clubs.

If you like seafood, you can visit the spectacular and renovated Fish-Market, which has been part of the DC culture and a go-to place since 1805.

Do not be surprised once you get to The Wharf to find yourself in the middle of a street performance or celebrating and dancing with people you don’t know. It is really a place full of surprises, but really worth a visit.

  1. It looks hip and modern. I love the large flame. That area, like Navy Yard, used to be rundown and nondescript. It's nice to see it revitalized.

  2. This could lead to a debate on the merits of revitalization. Revitalization sounds great, but what about gentrification? It serves to benefit the wealthy and push the poor out, no?

    1. Personally I think that in this particular area the revitalization was needed. And yes! Unfortunately most of the cases are like that, but there are cases where the gentrification has been done in a way that lower income people can stay on the area due housing programs or subsidies.
